There's a good deal of truth here. It makes one uncomfortable to say this. I've spent almost three years here. I have many Afghan I friends and there are many aspects of Afghanistan that I like, but they are not poor or divided because their land is not rich with resources. There used to be great kingdoms here. I read about these places and yet I find almost no sign of them here. I think perhaps the Mongols destroyed and crippled Afghanistan as they did Russia. Then, the Russians themseleves came in and finshed the job in 1979. I have never seen a place so completely dominated by the zero-sum game approach to the world. I think there is hope for the Hazara and the Tajiks, but the Pashtuns have to get it together if there are not going to destroy this place. I suspect Pakistan is on the road to even greater chaos.

HUA! (Heard Understood Acknoledged)
Thank you for coming here and telling the truth! The slant of the "Left" is just sickening to me. It does such a diservice to our U. S. Military which, while not perfect, certainly - by a wide margin - does much more good than harm.

I like Sarah Palin. She comes across as very honest and caring woman. I think there is more to her than what people may realize.

After reading this, i think i will read those ingrediants on pop tarts, now. I think that the military ought to allow some beer or gin, etc. sometimes. I wonder if there is too much micro-management with our military.

Reflecting upon the surge back during the Viet Nam era and now, during President Johnson's term, I wonder if this may have similarities. Difficult for me to say. Nothing is exactly the same as before. If something works, keep doing it. If something doesn't, change the way your doing it. The question that comes to mind is why do we need a surge? It is not the same as Iraq. But are things different in Afghanistan now (Nov. 2008) than before? And even if they are different, does not mean that we need a "surge", either. I am very interested in this area, since I have a daughter and son in law going there soon. jt
